Bird is the word! Newbury care home residents spread their wings to celebrate the best of British birds

Residents at a care home in Newbury are gearing up to take part in some avian-themed activities this January.

Inspired by the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place from Saturday 25^th to Monday 27^th January, residents will be taking part in a variety of activities related to our feathered friends, as well as topping up their bird feeders and counting the species in their garden.

Alongside Care UK homes across the country, Winchcombe Place, on Maple Crescent, will be celebrating the best of British birds by having a visit from Berkshire Birds of Prey, where the birds will visit residents and fly freely around the home.

Kerry Thompson, home manager at Winchcombe Place, explained why discovering our local wildlife is so important: “Everyone is really looking forward to celebrating British birds this January and learning more about our feathered friends. We’ve been researching British birds common to Newbury and are very excited to have Berkshire Birds of Prey visiting to show us see some of the less common species.

“Residents here at Winchcombe Place have a keen interest in nature, so we thought that researching local wildlife, as well as seeing birds of prey, would be the perfect way to discover what’s on our doorstep. We’d like to thank RSPB for inspiring us to get involved - we can’t wait to get started!”
